Francesco Schittulli

A graduate in Medicine and Surgery, he specialised in General Surgery and Oncology with top honours. Elected several times as councillor to the Medical Association of Bari, he was Director of the Special School of Surgical Senology and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Foggia and at the School of Specialisation in Oncology of the University of Bari first and then of Tor Vergata in Rome. A former National Councillor of SICO (Italian Society of Oncological Surgery) and member of the National Oncological Commission of the Ministry of Health, he was Chief Senologist-Surgeon and Scientific Director of the Tumour Institute of Bari, as well as Director of the Special School of Surgical Senology of ACOI (Italian Hospital Surgeons' Association).
He is the recipient of numerous national and international awards and prizes, including the ‘Melvin Jones Fellow’ of the Francesco Schittulli Lions International, the ‘Paul Harris Fellow’ of Rotary International, ‘Order of St. Gregory the Great by Pope St. John Paul II, ‘Premio Internazionale il Cultura Re Manfredi’ National President of the Italian League for the Fight against Tumours was awarded the ‘Medaglia d'Oro al Merito della Sanità Pubblica’ by the President of the Italian Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and the high honour of ‘Cavaliere di Gran Croce al Merito della
Italian Republic by Head of State Sergio Mattarella. A member of the National Oncology Commission, he was also a member of the Consiglio Superiore di Sanità (CSS) (Higher Health Council), as well as Director Senologist-Surgeon and Head of the Women's Department at the IRCOS Oncology Hospital in Bari and National President of H.S.R. (High Senology Responsibility).
Director of the Breast Unit of the Mater Dei Hospital in Bari, he is the author of over 300 scientific publications in national and international journals, as well as texts and books.
A pupil of Prof. Umberto Veronesi, he has about 30,000 breast pathology surgeries to his credit.
